The brand Planning Africa Conference is owned by the South African Planning Institute (SAPI). SAPI has successfully organised and hosted eight (8) Planning Africa Conferences.  You are invited to view the programmes, reports and conference proceedings of past conference.

The 8th Planning Africa conference took place in Cape Town from the 14 to the 17 October 2018 and was themed ‘“The Making of Modern African Cities”. The conference aimed to provide a platform for key stakeholders to engage and share ideas on planning challenges.  176 abstracts were reviewed and approved for consideration for conference. Papers that resonated with the theme and sub themes are collated in the presentations document.

In the 2016 Planning Africa Conference, 137 abstracts were received of which 126 abstracts were accepted for presentation during the conference. Based on the accepted abstracts, the authors were invited to submit their full papers following a double-blind peer review process. Out of 57 full papers -received only 37 papers were accepted for inclusion in the conference proceedings giving an acceptance rate of around 65%. Both the abstracts and full papers received followed a rigorous double-blind peer review process with an active support from a national and international review panel. The Conference Proceedings entitled “7th Planning Africa Conference 2016 Making Sense of the Future – Disruption and Reinvention was published under ISBN: 978-0-620-69628-9.

In the 2014, Planning Africa Conference, 131 abstracts were received, and 40 papers were finally accepted for inclusion in the proceedings after a rigorous double-blind peer review process. The papers were distributed at conference in the publication “Conference Proceedings Planning Africa 2014 Making Great Places (ISBN: 978-0-9921820-0-7)”
